What happens in a coaching session?

A woman and a young child inside a café, with the woman sitting on a stool looking down at her phone and the child standing near her, wearing a black hat and a gray hoodie with a bear face on it.
  • Coaching is a partnership. We meet for regular sessions, over a period of three to six months. I welcome you to come with specific goals in mind that you wish to tackle but are struggling to do so alone or within your current context. During our confidential and supportive sessions, I ensure that you are getting to where you want to go (even if you don't quite know where that is yet).

  • This is done through the coaching process of powerful questioning and attentive listening—to both what is being said and what is being left unsaid. By asking skillful, open-ended and thoughtful questions, I hold space for you to dig deep and uncover your own authentic solutions to overcoming obstacles, achieving goals and creating results.

  • I listen to you, deeply. I challenge you, gently. I champion you, fully. I celebrate you, always. Whether you are an individual on a personal journey of growth, discovery or getting unstuck, or a leader in your organization looking at a systems approach, I am your partner, your confidant, your sounding board, and, when needed, your devil's advocate. All answers come from you, with me by your side every step of the way.

What you’ll gain

Coaching gives you the opportunity to stop, breathe, reflect, evaluate and assess. This process expedites change, growth and clarity. When you work with me, you'll experience a partnership that honors where you are while supporting where you want to go.

  • Tackle complex decisions and ambitions with a partner who’s fully focused on you.

  • Gain clear insight into your goals, values, and the path forward that feels authentic to you.

  • Build trust in your own decision-making and ability to navigate challenges.

  • Reconcile your career ambitions with everything else that matters in your life.

What clients say

FAQs

  • A consultant offers advice, suggestions and solutions. In a coaching partnership, you are the subject matter expert. It is through the coaching process whereby you uncover your own solutions. You’ll never heard the words, “you should…” or “have you tried…” in our sessions.

  • Therapy is often past and healing focused, helping people understand and recover from psychological distress. Coaching is forward-focused and goal-oriented, helping you move toward desired change.

It is very common for people to work with both a coach and a therapist in tandem.

  • For one-on-one coaching, I work predominately online. For local clients (Calgary), there is the possibility to meet in person, on occasion.

  • If you’re in a season where you need clear instructions, concrete answers, or immediate problem-solving, coaching may not feel supportive right away. Coaching asks you to slow down, reflect, and take ownership of your decision-making. For some people, that’s exactly what they need, and for others, it’s not the right fit in the moment.

  • I believe that a true non-directive coach can work with any type of client. That being said, I’ve worked with so many different types of people! Lawyers, entrepreneurs, corrections officers, graduate students, stay-at-home parents, higher education leaders, non-profit leaders, corporate professionals, emerging leaders, engineers - you name it!

  • I meet you in your language. I listen for how you think, speak, and make meaning and reflect it back in a way that feels both familiar and stretching. This allows you to see yourself more clearly, without judgment, and make decisions that actually fit who you are.

  • I do share frameworks and tools when helpful, but coaching is not a prescriptive process. If you’re looking primarily for tactical advice (what job to take, what to apply for, what to do next), you may be better served by consulting, mentorship, or career advising.
